Out here in the wilds of Arizona time just seems to fly by. I am not sure that we are accomplishing much as far as missionary work goes, but we do travel an awful lot. On Tuesday of this week we had to go to Flagstaff to pick up elders that had had to travel to Phoenix on Monday to visit with the mission president. It's a three hour trip from here in St. Michaels. We were told we could go shopping while we were there. We were lost for an hour and a half just trying to find one store. We never did find it.--- Yesterday we had to travel to Chinle to a zone meeting. We took the four elders that we usually transport, so that car was full. I had an assignment to talk at this meeting. At least I made it entertaining. It's amazing how different your perspective is when you're older. You understand things so much better after having life experiences.---After the meeting we went to lunch at a place called Pizza Edge. The owners are members of the church and they feed the missionaries for free. There were 24 of us, so they sure didn't make anything on us.
The weather is changing. We had lots of wind yesterday and all night last night. The temperature is dropping and the clouds have rolled in. They say that we are supposed to get snow sometime tonight. That's okay. It's time. Seeing all the dirt flying around in Chinle made me really appreciate the fact that we have grass to hold our dirt down. On the reservation you don't see grass, just lots of dirt.
Tonight we are having company for dinner. The couple comes to our Gospel Principles class. The husband is a member and his wife is an investigator. If all goes well, she will be baptized on Nov. 21. We want to get to know them better, so hence the invite.--- We have had two investigators come to church with us. One is a young man of 20. He has come twice, but we have yet to give him an actual lesson. The other person is a man of 47 who is single and has custody of his seven year old grandson. We've given him one lesson and he and his grandson came to church with us. We spent two hours in Primary while they practiced for their program. The little boy liked it. They said that they would like to come back, so we'll see what happens.---We have spent hours and hours calling people and most don't answer or never return your calls. The other part of the time is trying to find actual addresses. In our first month we traveled over 4,000 miles. We have been told not to become discouraged. Easy to say.
We had a surprise when we were in Flagstaff on Tuesday. We had just gone through the checkstand at Wal-Mart and ran into Mark and Paige Moss. We had not seen them since their wedding. Mark is attending NAU, studying physical therapy. Paige is a massage therapist at a spa. Small world. It was fun to see someone we actually knew.
I need to get some studying done, so I gotta go. More later.
